ProSource is a cooperative, member-owned, not-for-profit buying group that includes members of the former Home Entertainment Source (HES) and Progressive Retailers Organization (PRO Group). Incepted in 2008, ProSource represents the largest volume of upscale CE retail sales in the industry. ProSource today is over 550 members strong, with three unique membership programs, and over $5B in sales.
In August 2008 PRO Group and HES buying groups entered into a strategic alliance which allowed both entities the ability to collaborate with their mutual vendor partners on special buy opportunities and specific channel strategies. The Alliance, at the time, represented over $3.6 billion of upscale CE retail volume, provided suppliers with a clear distribution channel in which they could continue to sell step-up products.
In April 2014 PRO Group and HES officially merged to become ProSource, the largest member-owned buying group serving the CE market, with over $4 billion in revenue. Through its association with AVB, Prosource can draw upon an even greater level of services for the benefit of its membership while still maintaining the focus of specialization towards the custom install and upscale specialist dealer. The prime objective in creating ProSource was to combine the best of both groups and to build from there to create the best and most influential merchandising group in the industry for the independent retailer and custom integrator. Volumes were combined to create greater opportunities for key vendor partners and members. Combined, ProSource expanded “best practice” idea sharing, business solutions, advertising and e-commerce initiatives to benefit all members.
In December of 2015 ProSource announced an alliance with Power Audio Video Group based in Ontario, Canada. This agreement provides both immediate and long-term benefits to independent retailers and suppliers associated with the two organizations. As many CE vendors are managing the United States and Canada as a single market, the alignment of these two buying groups mirrors this trend of harmonized sales and marketing strategies.
Launched in 1994 as the specialty AV division of AVB, HES catered to specialty AV retailers and custom integrators each with annual sales volume between $1m – $10m. With the ability to leverage business resources and a group owned warehouse solution (Expert Warehouse), HES grew to represent hundreds of dealers and over $1.6 billion dollars in 2008.

Founded in 1985 as a member-owned, not-for-profit organization that in 2008 represented $2B annual sales, 16 members, 140 storefronts. Pro Group was the logical upscale alternative to national retailers.
